Drupal Jam 2010
I was at the Drupal Jam 2010 and I'm glad I attended.
Drupalgardens
At forehand I had looked through the program and saw a couple of subjects I wanted to hear about and some not so much. I really enjoyed the drupalgardens presentation, it has the potential to change the way we work with Drupal. Or it at least holds the potential to enrich the workflow.
Drupalgardens, in my eyes, allows for a nice start up place for new clients who have little to none knowledge of Drupal. It creates a setting in which the client can participate in the start up process or it can be used to educate them about Drupal.
A great feature to me is the fact that you can export the created website and take it under your wings as a none Drupalgardens website. There is a video presentation on the website Drupalgardens which says it all in a nutshell.
National Archives
After this presentation I went on to the presentation of Baris Wanschers about the National Archives. He and the technical project lead, Jaap van der Velde, talked about the new website in Drupal and all underlying connections with other systems.
A great feature is the connection with Apache Solr search integration. This really enriches the information on the website.
For me it was a great presentation with a lot of cool information about the history of the Netherlands which are held at the National Archives. Some nice features of Drupal are being used and also the shortcomings of Drupal and how Drupal lends itself to overcome these shortcomings. Maybe shortcomings isn't the right word because it really are some speciffic cases which I belief are not ment for a system like Drupal to handle on its own.
Drupal 7 theming
This presentation was nothing like I hoped it would be. It was a list of changes in Drupal 7 compared to Drupal 6. It was information which I either already knew or I would just read as soon as I start working with Drupal 7. In no way was it presentation worthy... Also the speaker was hard to understand because of his constant gum chewing... a big nono if you ask me...
I would have liked to see some examples of Drupal 7 theming goodness... Not slides with: in Drupal 6 you used "a" in Drupal 7 you use "b"...
All in all it was worth taking the day of work :)
